Random thought about oil blow-by. 4 Years, 8 Months ago
So I'm thinking about running the blow-by tube that is connected to the back of the BAK, to the bottom of the bike. Seems like any extra oil running straight through the carb (Yes, I know it's not much) back into the motor is just counter-productive to a motor that is as sensitive to carbon as ours is.

My question is, are you guys hooking anything to the bottom of the hose as is is directed to the ground (like a filter of some sort), or are you just letting it hang freely? And how did you route it? Fill me in. BB

I let mine hang freely in the wind.

Exits under the bike beside the tank vent.

I ran mine down the backbone and down by the battery. Had to add extra hose and used a plastic union to join them and put a metal fuel filter on the end and wire tied it to the frame. Might see it if you look real close.

I havent hooked anything to mine either BB. Thought about it but it doesnt seem to be hurting anything . And you will be suprised how much blow-by goes thru that carb. When I did mine, I got about a teaspoons worth of oil out of the bottom of the airbox. So how much was going thru the carb.

I WAS simply running the fuel line to the ground; however, it is now my understanding that the crankcase breather not only has an exhaust mode, but also has an intake mode, hence the name "breather". That said, I went to our local H-D dealer and purchased a Drag Specialties Rubber Top Crankcase Vent Filter for $9. I ran the fuel line through the wire guide that was used for the fuel tank vent line, at the bottom of the bike, then plugged the filter into the end of the fuel line and secured it with a mini hose clamp. The rubber top keeps it from 'clanking' against the frame.

Now, any discharge is absorbed by the filter, which also prevents unwanted dirt and dust particles from making their way back into the engine!

Thanks.

Doesn't sound like a bad idea, 06. I ran mine about the same way, it's free to the air for now. Man does that thing "breathe". I doubt anything could actually get back up mine, as I ended up using about two and a half feet of gas line and snaked it behind the right side cover and lightly zip tied it to the machined hole at the back of the transfer case. So far, so good.BB
