RES-TEC 3 Inch Drag Pipes 9 Months, 3 Weeks ago
Hi all.

Does anyone have the Hard Krome RES-TEC 3 Inch Drag Pipes? I'd like to know how you like the tone and also how loud they are (pretty subjective I know).

I have cobra pipes now (on the bike when I got it) but they are pretty loud. I'm looking for something with a lower tone and not as loud unless I open it up. I don't want to upset the neighbors with my coming and going.

I also like the look of the HK 2 into 1 Side Burners but I'm hearing they are probably just as loud as the pipes I have now (if not louder).

Thanks in advance

dave

put it this way the standard 3.0 inch HardKhromes Double DD's are LOUD.... they are obnoxious and not very well like by those who ride behind you...... they are louder than Vance/Hines or Cobra straight pipes... my intial assumption is the Res-Tec 3 maybe a little quieter than the 3.0 inch DD's or Vance/Hines straight pipes! The 2 3/4 dia DD's straight pipes would be better, The Cobra Power shots Straight pipes sound much better if you want a deeper tone than install a set of Thunder Monster Baffles there around $ 85.00 I like the rear exhaust head pipe as it sweep around the transfer case showing more chrome instead of a cover up such as what HardKhromes DD's will do...

just a thought!

shhhhh... don't tell anyone!

I have 3" RoadBurners, which are cousins of HardKrome pipes. The res-tec muffler cartridge system is great, IMO. They have a good bark when you get into the gas, but settle down to a nice medium growl when cruising. I can get out past the neighbors at 4am without waking every dog around. I would recommend them.

One thing though. If you get a wild hair and want to pull the baffles and have them loud for some special occasion, it isn't going to work. The res-tec cartridge system isn't like a normal baffle. Pull these and the pipes sound like crap.

I have had my HK 3" RES TEC on the scooter now going on 4 years. Noting bad to say at all. Intact I get regular compliments on the looks and sound. They are +1 in my book and I reccomend them especially if you think the DD big straights are loud. These really quiet down when just cursing but will bark pretty good if you crack the throttle.

Thanks for all the replies. I like what I'm hearing about the sound.

Fireman, Nice looking pipes.

I looked them up on the Roadburner site.

http://roadburner.com/motorcycle-exhaust.php?rbID=72

I didn't see any mention of Res-Tec type of technology for these pipes that you mention you have. Am I looking at the wrong product or did you add something to your pipes after you installed them?

I like the look. I didn't see the black ceramic in the HKs.

Mine are 3" Road Pro's. I guess they don't make them any more. They do have the Res-Tec type cartridge system, but RoadBurner calls it SLT.

Thanks for the suggestions.

I've ordered the Road Burner pipes that Fireman has. Thanks for the link Tug.

I'll post back with pics when they are installed.
