Light bar wiring problem 1 Year, 4 Months ago
Hi. I have a problem. I am finished (about) mounting a cobra light bar to my '99 roadie.

I got the light bar mounted, and the wires hooked back up as directed in the instructions, with the exception that it says to splice into the blue running light wire, and I can't find a solid blue wire except those on the turn signals. I have a blue & yellow, as well as a blue&white. I have tried both of those and the turn signals came on solid along with the head light - but the spots don't work. I have tried both those blue combo wires - one at a time - same results - the turn signals were on solid and the headlight was on - but the spots were not. I detached the quick splice clip and taped the area for now.

I am perplexed, and now have another problem

I put everything back to stock: I made sure the green wire on the turn signals was back into the green holder; the brown with the brown; the two blacks with the black, and the two blue with the blue. So it is right back where it was before I started, and I have the black passing light completely unhooked, and now when I turn the key - the bike just clicks rapidly and the turn signals are lit solid and the light is on.

What am I doing wrong - what have I screwed up?

Thanks for your imput. this is bumming me out big time!

Been a while since I was in there but the blue wire should be inside the headlight bucket.

Thanks Musky and Greysnake,

I was told by a service manager at the shop to check all my fuses, I did, nothing... I still had that clicking like buzz up under the tank - decided to start the engine and let it run for a while and the noise cut out after a few seconds - so I stopped and started the motor again a few times with the same results.

I decided to wire up the light bars to the running lights, put the headlight back on and head for the dealer to let him have a listen, but after putting everything together and starting the bike - the noise went completely away on start up.

Anyway, I am not at all sure what the problem was, but all is well now, the bars are on, fired up and looking good.

So some agrivation and a lost evening of riding last night but everything is good now.

Thanks for your imput. I appreciate it.

The noise you're talking about isn't the fuel pump is it?

not sure... the noise was up under the tank...past the fuel pump - in my opinion. I have heard the slight easy sound - like the fuel pump perhaps - when you turn the key on and the dials indicators move and so on, even that seems to have quieted down today after this little event, but frankly - I am not sure what the noise was from - but it was loud... a rapid clicking and buzzing kind of sound. Anyway, it is gone, the bike runs like a charm and all is well!

Now, I have to find out how to make my jpegs into the size requested by the forum so as to get some pics of my scooter on here.

See ya, and thanks for the shout

After your bike sits over night get over on the left and down by the fuel pump before you turn your key on. If you have been riding the bike recently the fuel pump probably won't need to fill the bowl so it won't make any noise.

I can resize your pic for you. If you want me too let me know and I'll PM you my email addy and you can send it to me. I can also put text on it (Like my sig) if you want that.

Re:My OWN Light bar wiring problem 1 Year, 3 Months ago
OK, now I've got the headlight bucket open and since I don't have the Silverado model there's no passing lamp "white connector socket" to plug into. I've got many choices for wires in that bucket and NONE of them look like the mysterious "blue light wire". I'm attaching a pic or so. Can someone point out to this dummy which wire is the hot one to wire these lights into so they will remain on all the time (that is, with either high or low beams on).

Thanks and sorry to be so dense.
