Greenpus, I saw that there were issues with this (05 and later), but was unable to locate the details. Good job and thanks for supplying!

you're the one that provided the original url link to this issue. I just read the FAQ's and copy/pasted it here.
clink on the "Dynatek 3000 FAQ's" tab.

Trust me.....That didnt work out so well for me!

Do you have big wattage bulbs in your driving lights? Ive been running with mine on all the time, high and low, for 5 years. Never had a problem.

Right. But I couldn't locate the details on the Dynatek link, only knew it was an issue. I do appreciate you finding the link.

+1 pm running them all the time. I did switch the passing lamps to 55W bulbs and they are quite a bit brighter than stock, but still no problem at all. The main headlight bulb is still stock.
I ride to work every morning in deer infested country and want as much light as the old girl can muster up......brights with passing lamps on.....no problems at all.

The folks At Dynatek never updated that site. The Info there is wrong! I just contacted them and let them know.Originally that was true. They upgraded the D3K7-3,... 2+ years ago.It will work with the 05 & up, and now supports the aux circuit the lights are connected to in the headlight.
There is a model #, if it is..1101140, then you have an older model, and will not support the aux circuit. If the number is 1101343,it will support 05 and up.Any doubts call tech support, PIA to get through but they know there stuff.
I went through this a about 14 months ago and they replaced my old model with the new and the lights work.

Black Max... I have no idea as why the speed star ignition would cause the passing lamp circuit to fail. You might try putting the stock ignition back in to see if all works, If so I would contact Yamaha and ask why. Let me know how it works out, Yamaha claims all parts in the speedster line are compatible.

As far as I know they are the factory Bulbs but I could be mistaken.

I posted my issues here and was told there was an issue with the circuitry in the 99's and the system couldnt handle the wattage to the fuse and will blow the headlight fuse.

The cure was to rewire the lights to an independant switch to the battery on its own circuit.

Of course not having alot of time to do that and much prefering to spend my time riding the bike instead of wrenching it(isnt that why we buy Yamahas to begin with?) I just dont run the hi beam and the spots at the same time....

And it goes without saying I carry the Allen wrench for the side cover with me in my tool kit!

+2....I run mine all the time, high and low beams and never have blown a fuse yet.

When I tried going to the 55w silverstar H3 bulbs it either over loaded the wires or it just got too hot, 'cause it melted the wires in the passing light. 'Course that shorted the circuit and we lost all lights.

Like you guys I don't have a problem running them with high and low.

I have the Dyna 3000 and passing lamps they work jsut fine. True the web site is not up to date and they know it as I spoke with them about wiring the Passing Lamps and found out it was not necessary as they had resolved the issue over 2 years ago. The little switch turns the Passing Lamps off and on and if they are wired like mine the passing lamps do not come on until the engine is running hence the issue with the earlier version of the Dyna it did not support the power for the Passing Lamps. I have removed the switch, actually when I installed the Yamaha tribar lights they removed the switch for me necessitating a switch elimination
