Re:Seriously?! 9 Months ago
One of my other roadstars i built a few years back....I would beat the hell out of it in town and get in the 40's usually around 43mpg....then out on the highway i would usually get 51 somtimes 52 mpg.
That bike had : High compression pistons, Mikuni 42mm, dyna 3000 ignition, nemesis intake manifold, dyna coils with MSD plug wires, comp. clutch spring, ported heads, cams, cam timing gear advanced 4 degrees......the thing was running on the dyno at 95 h.p. and i would use every bit of those horses everywhere i went getting between 185-215 miles to 4.3 gal. of fuel.
Even in town i think you should be getting in the 40's....especially if you aren't even beating on it.

Just my experience with other roadies.....sounds like those experiences are not the norm though.

1 more explanation..... I did this once, Pulled into a station to get gas, talking to a guy at the next pump. I SAT on the bike (straight up) and filled it. Rode around all day and figured shes gettin low so I pulled into another station.... got off the bike (on the kickstand) and filled it. Took almost twice as much before. Dont remember the exact numbers but , I did some quick math like always and my bike went from 42 mph that morning to around 28 that evening! After I was confussed as hell trying to figure out what happened....it hit me! It was just that I filled it while holding it upright that morning , then on the kickstand the next fill... it took alot more gas, hence, crappy mileage!

I have been getting less than ideal gas mileage lately and I heard from a small engine repair shop that the 87 octane we were buying in the past is not 87. He said that if the fuel you use in you weedeaters is older than 1 month old, you need to put it in your lawnmower and mix some new gas. I say this to let you know that I recently switched to 89 octane and on my last couple of runs I got between 46 & 49 mpg. That's running in town and out on the open road staying under 70 mph.
