I have an 05 and it developed the "KNOCK" as well. I've had it to the dealers a couple of times and they assure me there is nothing to worry about. I have also researched it as much as possible and always find the same answer, "its normal". So now I just ignore it and ride the piss out of it.

Maybe everyone is right. I should just deal with it and enjoy the ride.

The only time I've ever had the sort of noises described here was when I was either lugging it or when I am just starting off from a full stop on a really hot day. Both of these noises are pre-detonation ping and not what I'd technically call a knock.

Normally I run 89 octane fuel, but if I know there will be a week when the temps are expected to be 95 or higher AND I expect to be in traffic under about 30 MPH I'll bump up the octane to the next level to give me a little more "ping protection". Seems to work pretty well for my bike.
