Slipping Clutch - Wildstar 2001 XV1600 9 Months ago

An age old problem with the clutch slipping on my Wildstar. I fitted a new Yamaha clutch Still same problem. I switched the oil to a recommended one Still same problem. I have read that I can fit a 25% stronger clutch spring. Yamaha Dealers in the UK have never heard of this spring and are unable to source one for me. Can anyone out there give me a contact e-mail address of a dealer who would be willing to ship one to me? Also if I am going to fit a new Clutch spring are there any other changes/replacements you would recommend I do whilst I am in there. I look forward to your help. Best Regards Bob Rose

you can do the barnett spring convertion, use a stronger yamaha spring, or even double up the springs

EBC makes one that is 15% stronger than stock. About $23 if I remember correctly. I've read that you want to get the one with the white stripe on it as that's the mark for the newer version. Seems like they had some problems with the first ones produced and the white mark indicates the new version.

hey! another brit!
go to your local yam dealer and order part nš 1FK-16334-00
itīs a 1700 warrior diaphragm, and works a treat. donīt forget to order a new gasket for the clutch cover, and new bolts for the clutch spring as they can stretch.
cheapest solution there is.

When you say "Fitted new Yamaha Clutch" did they only replace the plates and discs? If so, this is why.
Buy a second Stock Clutch Spring and put it on top of the first one. Then button it back up. The Pull will be harder, but it'll never slip. I have this setup right now. It works a treat. Except for the hard pull on the clutch handle. Its harder than a Barnett clutch conversion, but its much cheaper.
Also, since EBC sells in Europe
and EBC CSK906 clutch spring is stronger than the OEM normal Clutch Spring. It is also much cheaper than stock. I am switching to this clutch spring this winter.
Something else you can do it to get a "Roadstar Warrior Competition" Clutch Spring... supposedly 20% stiffer. I think the part number is:
SPD-5PX09-84-00 Competition Clutch Spring $152.95 retail price in the US.
There is also the SPD-4WM09-84-10 which is supposedly the "Roadstar Competition Clutch" $113.95 retail in the US.

Actually if you can get the EBC CSK906 diaphragm spring, here in the US it goes for about $35 shipped. It has 15% more clamping power.

I tried all of the above, only the Burnett with two shims cured the problem. The shims are washers (Very thin) that go behind the clutch before you put the basket back on.
The Warrior spring was just ok, when I was single up The Burnett stands up to two up and loaded steep hills and break neck take offs. That cures the problem. Use / buy the heavy duty springs, the green ones. Not the RED.

I'd be glad to send whatever you need, but EBC is made there, you should be able to buy one.
