Not shifting correctly 8 Months, 3 Weeks ago
Ok bike is broken I was riding home from work and went to pull away from stop and felt like it was in Neutral but was actually in gear, tried down shifting no gears upshifted and it took off ok,turned on next corner and downshifted and back to feeling like in Neutral again, upshifted and bike moved, stopped at brother inlaws and looked at shift linkage and things seem ok,took off for home and all shifts were normal until I stopped at my driveway and had no gears after downshifting again upshifted and coasted into shed, clutch feels normal and disengages ok,after bike was shut off for a bit checked again and had 1st and 2nd no problem, looked at front pulley all things ok in there so do I need to remove the clutch cover and see whats goin on inside? Any help ideas are appreciated, thanks also bike used to jump back to neutral after shifting into second at times but never had problem with rest of the gears

If the clutch is adjusted properly you will probably need to dig a little deeper. Has the clutch been slipping?

Not that I have noticed seemed to feel normal when I get into it,never noticed slippage, oil looks good so no debris or clutch material in it that I can see

Can you feel it shift into gear going from N to 1st? If so and it slips when you release the clutch lever, it is probably time to disassemble it and check/replace the clutch disc.

Re:Not shifting correctly 8 Months, 3 Weeks ago
I was hit with something similar last week and ended up having to get towed. The symptoms were as you described...trouble finding gears and N...until the shifter froze.

I thought I blew the clutch but folks told me to check simple things first. First the shift cable and the actual shifter. Upon simply removing the shift linkage I found my shifter was frozen solid in the bracket. The link above details what I went through to try and remove it. Reportedly, the shifter gets rust and crud on its spline causing it to stick or freeze in the hold of the bracket.

When I pull the clutch and shift into 1st it moves when I let it out,the shifter moves ok but doesnt seem normal I will lube it up before I dig into it,I am a auto mechanic so bikes are a little different for me but no problem tearing into it

Based on the recent posts of the last few days I'd say shifter linkage and pivot shaft is dry (No Lube) or your front drive pulley loosened . Amazingly your question fits those two topics so well we can discuss them for another week

I was thinking front drive pulley. Mine did the same thing..... acted like the clutch or transmission was slipping. Turned out to be the front drive pulley.

I removed pulley cover and it looks good nut is in place and washer tab still bent over it and no metal debris anywhere, lubed shifter pivot last night and that moves ok just doesn't feel the same when shifting by hand trans doesn't seem to click in place when shifted, wondering if it is return spring at shift shaft, think I will pull clutch cover off tonight and inspect that and shift shaft
