Roadstar Front Brake Bleeding 6 Years, 4 Months ago
I have a 2003 Midnightstar and after replacing the front tire and remounting it to the bike I no longer have a brake to the front wheel. I have bled the brakes several time without any luck. I even removed and replaced the wheel just incase I missed something. The bike has 33k miles but disc pads are good. Can some one assist in fixing this or have an easy way to remove air from the system. I have run a bottle of fluid through the system and no bubbles seem to be in the system. Thanks in advance

L,

Bleed it also at the 't' junction underneath the bottom triple tree, where
it branches into the 2 brake lines going down to the calipers.

I've had to rap it a few times with a screwdriver handle to loosen the bubbles,
prior to bleeding the connectors.

Once you get most of the bubbles out of the 't' junction, then you should have some stiffer lever. Might want to tape the lever back overnite just to let the other smaller bubbles float out.

Hope this hleps,

Odo

I have attempted to allow gravity to do the job by leaving it overnight and tied back but I have not bleed the junction. What would be the procedure for this without getting it on the paint of the fender?

L,

Yepper, got to be carefull. I usually put a plastic garbage bag over the fender, then a bunch of shop rags over the plastic bag.

Also, have the tank covered when I have the top of the master cylinder top cover off, while bleeding.

Will give it a try tonight. Do you just crack the banjo or give me a bit more details. Do you break it at the hose from the master cylinder or where the banjo devides the fluid?

L,

Just crack the banjo fitting at the 't' junction. It's 'usually' not necessary to bleed at the master cylinder.

Once the air comes out of the 't' junction, then tap the lines and the calipers with the screwdriver handle and bleed again at the calipers.

Ok, Here is the deal. There was no air in the system. I removed both front calipers and on the leftside one of the brake pad ears had bent and slipped down and was not allowing the brake to pressurize. Removed the pad and straightened the ear, replaced it and 3 squirts from the lever I have really good brakes again. Did accomplish flushing system with 2 bottles of new fluid and very happy again. Thanks for all the comments and assistance. I guess that is why my nickname is Pollock. Imagine that. Have a great day.
