Lowering/new shock 7 Months, 3 Weeks ago
Want to lower my bike about an inch or so. My * is already in need of a new shock so I'm ordering a progressive 465-1140 which is about an inch shorter then stock. Is this the best route for lowering or would it be better to get a stock length shock and a lowering kit with adjustable dog bones? Also with the 465-1140 would anyone r
Recommend getting the progressive spring 850-1250 instead of the one that comes on the 465. I typically ride solo, around 225 lbs but with the wife and gear we're at about 350 give or take.

I installed adjustable lowering dogbones o mine. I also run solo but if i take a trip, i want to raise the back end to compensate for the weight.

What is the rated lbs for the spring that comes it? I've only heard of a handful that have gone this route. I don't believe anyone has changed the spring, not that I can recall. I would try it as it comes first, it is a better shock than the stock one. I was thinking of going this route myself, I like that it only lowers 1 inch, If not mistaken all the other type lowering kits are 1.5 inch or longer. I'm picky, I only wanted a 1 inch drop, so I never lowered mine, except the flip, but way too low, so back to norm. Now this shock has come out, so 2 for 1 for me, better ride and the exact drop I want, just need the moolah. lol

I've done some searching on here about the spring rate and read in one post that it was an 800 lb spring. I'll call progressive and see if I can get a more definite answer.

I have that same shorter shock on my bike. My spring is the 600/800 progressive and it rides great! Now, I don't ride 2 up much and I weigh 170 or so, but it is perfect for me.

Just got off the phone with progressive, the 465-1140 comes with a 925 lbs/in spring. He also confirmed that putting the 825-1250 progressive spring on shorter 1140 would drastically change that spring rate due to the shock length being 1 inch shorter making it a much harsher ride. Pretty much makes my decision for me, lol.

you could get the aftermarket shock spring combo your looking at in original length with adjustable dog bones. then you could lower it an inch and if you don't like it you could always go back to stock height if its too low. if you get the shorter shock going back to stock height is not an option. I got the adjustable dog bones myself.

Thanks for the link. That post was from over a year ago and he was thinking that the spring was 800 lbs spring. The guy today told me 925. I wonder if they changed the spring or if the stiffer 925 lbs spring is only on the shorter 465-1140.

The spring he suggested wasn't for a roadie. It was longer than stock & progressively wound. I didn't even need a spring compressor to start it. I believe I cranked the pre-load nuts down about 1 1/2- 1 5/8 "I'm finishing up my 2nd season w/ it & I'm very pleased, in fact I really don't think about it too much. I just enjoy the ride/day
