A new pilot jet costs $4 get a new one and be sure its clean.

When it comes to carb cleaning you must remember that the deposits were created in a flow of fuel or at least shaped by the flow in a stream of fuel they are smooth and flowing till they reach a critical point and diminish the flow enough to catch our attention, time to clean the carb we think and go in there with some solvent and a brush hopefully never a wire, we scrub and clean till it looks great or at least good enough, but a closer inspection with a powerful magnifying glass or better yet a jewelers loop might reveal deposits left behind and now the deposits are no longer smooth and uniform but choppy and spread around . Now one might think such small amounts are meaningless but yet if we were able to calculate their displacement it might be surprising the space the deposits left behind can take up and worst of all now instead of flowing they are disruptive.

Point in study would be to take a windex bottle filled with water a simple carb example and take a small pin and at the exact point the mist leaves the nozzle insert just the very tiniest amount of the head of the pin into the flow and pump almost instantly you will have a stream of water running down your arm and dripping off your elbow use your imagination and put this example to work on your carb

Had my 2001 to my Yamaha dealer last fall for a carb problem. Went through it all, replaced all the wearing parts and rubber seals, 'boiled' the metal parts, put it back together and adjusted for less than a hundred bucks. I had just gotten the bike and hadn't bought my service manual yet. Now I wouldn't hesistate to do it myself.

If it was me in your situation I would have the dealer get you all the wearing and rubber parts and do it myself. Replace all the hose and the filter. That carb is dead easy to work on just take your time and be gentle.

$600.00??? Good grief.

$75 sounds cheap
I wouldn't remove, clean, install, and tune for $75.

$150 plus parts and YES I'm installing a new needle valve and seat and a new pilot jet along with a bowl ring,,, Course I'm not a mechanic, a cheapskate, or in need of a hobby.

$40 if you bring me the carb removed and supply the parts I mention above and when I'm done ya don't bug me with tuning or installation questions.

I took my Venture, with 4 carbs into Yamaha of Rancho Cucamunga and got all the carbs cleaned and adjusted to the point that it ran and still runs perfect and it only cost me $400.00. they charged for shop time and a few bucks for parts. I would take any Yamaha back there again if needed. I live in So UT and would still take either of my motorcycles back there for service. I feel like they were that good.

Buddy of mine is looking at a 91 Venture 30K miles in great shape that has been sitting for a year for $2000. He is going to try and get it and wants me to go thru the carbs for him. Boy is that going to be fun.
