Fuel system question 7 Months, 1 Week ago
Well about a month ago I went to the vacume fuel pump. Mounted it on the frame as illustrated in the second option here on the clinic. But I must have oopsed something. Got caught in heavy trafic coming home one day, Stand still to barely moving for about an hour), and she stalled. Pushed to the side of the road. and could not get her to restart. After about 2 hours of nothing I bypassed the fuel pump and got her home. Thr line is the 1/4 running from the petcock to the filter. Filter to the pump, pump run under the manifold to the carb. Used a heavy wall 1/8 line to run the vacume side. So did I miss something when I set this up? have not had a chance to check the pump yet. But it ran great for that month with it. Thanks for any advice as always!

Those pumps aren't really "vacuum" pumps. I know they're described as such but they're named by Mikuni as a pulse fuel pump. They're designed to work off the crankcase pulses. The only reason I can see that they've ever worked on the Road Star is because it's such a low rpm engine the manifold vacuum probably isn't steady. Hook one up to a steady vacuum source and it won't do anything.

It would probably work better if one spliced into the crankcase vent line close to the valve cover.

Well I have some time this weekend. I guess the pumpless thing is next on the list! Can always put it back if it don't work either. Worst case is start hunting down a good electric pump that don't cost $$$

+1 The only reason the one on my lawnmower works is because the rubber hose goes to the crank case.
