Seems like this is a common enough problem that Yamaha should have done something about. Mine is non op as well.

where can i get one of the sender units from, mine has the little feelers on the sender worn out and are no longer making contact.i have try'ed googleing but cant find one.and i dont live near a dealer.Is there somebody here that sells them.

What exactly did the dealer replace? The entire float assembly? Did you get the old parts? How much were you charged for the part? There is not a whole lot to the sending unit mechanically speaking. So if you have a brand new sending unit then follow the above advise and track the connections. But I would like to know if they put in a brand new assembly. Kind of old school like that, I always ask for the parts.

I've seen them on ebay from time to time.
