Valve spring swap... 4 Years, 8 Months ago
Question...I want to put the heavier valve springs in my Roadie. 1st... any problems with putting the heavier ones in with all the other parts 'stock'? 2nd.. Anybody ever swap them using air to hold them instesd of pulling the heads? And will I be able to get to all of them while in the frame? Thanks

Hi BR, kinda slow around here today, I saw your post earlier, guess most folks are out ridin.. I can't say for a road*, but on a 283 chevy, that will work... also, we were runnin solid lifters.. If the lifters in the roadie are stout enough, I guess you could bump up the springs..I would guess(and this is only a guess) I know the air will hold the valves up, and I think you could get to them if the spring compressor is small enough..2 cents thats all..

Thanks flash...I know we would do the air thing with cars too and it worked. My buddy has an a.t.v. shop, He's says he see's no reason why it wouldnt. I was looking at the rear of the head on the rear cylinder and it looks pretty tight..I was hoping someone would jump in here and say .NO problem!...that they had done it already. Oh well , I still have a few days before I wanna do it..we'll see what happens.

Let us know what you find out, with folks bumping up rev limits and stuff like that, it may come in handy.. don't want any floating valves..

Well look at it this way BR, all ya have to do is pull the rear valve cover off and see if you can get in there with the tools, if not, I don't think the head will be that hard to take off at this point..
