If you measured the oil that you drained when still hot then you should have about 10% more by volume (4.4 qt) that you added (4 qt). If you let it cool to room temp then the two volumes should have been similar.
This does nothing to address your concerns regarding draining 5 qt out.
I'd probably keep an eye on it and if it repeats itself then yes you have a problem.

Cougars suggestion of blocking up your bike after jacking it up in the air is a great idea and so is PopRivet's center jack comment.
An alternate idea is to create your own oil drip pocket out of two plastic trash bags (one inside of the other). Cuffing the outside of the bag(s) will provide enough rigidity to keep the oil from flowing out. When you are done, tape seal the top of the bags with duct tape to keep the liquid in. When you bring the bag to Advance Auto to dispose of the oil, simply poke a small hole in the bottom of the bag to drain the oil into their waste disposal container. This technique is similar to what we do in nuclear work to keep contaminated liquid from spilling on the deck!

Sounds "do-able", but also sounds like too much to go through to change your oil. I just stick a couple blocks of 2X4 under the kick stand and change her out that way. I try and follow the KISS method. But, whatever blows a fellas skirt up is cool with me too.
