I use high temp gasket maker ( Permatex Ultra Copper ) as a sealant when I put new gaskets in. Course you probably are limiterd what you can get in Thailand...oh BTW if you've been using thge same exhaust gaskets since 2000 it might be the problem. They have probably been deformed enough so that they no longer effectively seal. But thats just my humble oppinon.

Kai, I have no way of knowing how long the gaskets have been in there, but after a closer examination, they are different in composition and thickness. I would guess that at least one has been changed. They have also gone through some stages of deformity upon close examination. I'm sure they're not very effective and need to be changed.

I've got one of my guys over here trying to run down a couple of new gaskets for me. Whether it fails or not, I'll be ordering some from Tim at Metric Magic.

I've got a gasket maker here called Sparko Alpha Black. I used it on the intake manifold replacement. The product claims to withstand temps up to 650 degrees farenheit. I've heard that there is Permatex over here, but haven't found it.

While I'm ordering stuff, I just as soon get a tube of Hylomar Blue and some Permatex Ultra Copper.

Success!

Or at least, overwhelming success.

Replaced the gaskets on the exhaust, tightened things down real well, and took Dahm Yai out for a test ride. The backfiring and popping has been reduced considerably -- I'd say 80% less! Only get a few small pops, and that's only on occasion.

Life is good again in The Land of Smiles!

Thanks to everyone for their input and advice!
