Never had to check my Roadie, but here's how I have checked several other bikes. I set my ohm meter to the volt section (mine has a 9 volt section that works fine), red to the positive side of the battery, black/negative side. With the high beam on, rev the bike up to a couple thousand rpms (no tach, just a solid rev, as many bikes don't charge at 1000 rpms at all), the Volt part of the ohm reader should move from about 12.5 up to 14 volts. If the meter shows movement up (needs to be at least 13.5 ) the stator is doing its job. If someone has more specific advice, then by all means use theirs, but this has worked for me for years. Hope it helps. BB

I just tested my charging system on a HD, but this should work for any bike, first make sure you set your meter to DC Voltage, no AC , make sure your bat is fully charged, it should be 12.5 to 13V, start the bike and onced its warmed up while in idle check the voltageit should go a bit higher 13.3 to 13.5 more or less, then increase the revs and check again if you read 13.8 to 14 you are OK.
just make sure you are set to DC on the meter (i noticed ur getting 34vac), voltages could be bit off on a R*, but the readings should follow in this patern.
Cheers.

the AC is for when you check coming directly out of your stator if you follow the info from the tech write ups on this site thats where i'm getting messed up. i may try a reg its only 85.00 if i take it in to a dealer it will be 90.00 plus the 85.00 and if it turns out to be the stator the dealer would add another 180.00 plus 200.00 for the stator so i'm money ahead if i do it myself then you have the stator cover chromed while its off and your equal to the dealer and have more chrome
Thanks
