you know that checking the oil level can not be trusted only way to know is to change the oil and put in only 4qts.

mobil 1 motorcycle oil 20w50
rotella t6 20w50
amsoil motorcycle oil 20w50

are the ones to trust

If you haven't already, check your spark plugs. I had the same issue last year, towards the end of the season, so I figured I probably had a valve that was out of adjustment. So over the winter I opened up the top end to adjust the valves but when I started taking things apart, I found that both spark plugs for the front cylinder were loose. I'm talking loose enough that I was able to remove them without a wrench. I went ahead and checked the valves any way and they were all good; no adjustment needed. Put everything back together and waited for warm weather and haven't had anymore ticking sounds. BTW, my bike is a 2005 and at the time it had about 42,000 miles on it and I'd never done a valve adjustment. And like I said, all the valves were well within tolerance. So I can't imagine that a 2009 with only 7,500 miles on it will need a valve adjustment unless something out of the ordinary happened. Good luck!!

Aaron

A friend of mine had a bike that was making noise like that. I said to him, why is yer bike making all that ticking noise. He said it started right after he changed the oil. I said what oil did you use. He said, I used the vegetable oil just like you said to. I said no man ! I wished we could use vegetable oil because it is so much cheaper than regular oil.

Are you telling me that I shouldn't be using cooking oil in my bike?

My vegetable oil says it may have traces of peanuts. Could that cause premature SVS?

I don't know about the SVS, but it may cause your heads to swell.
