10 mm drain plug ????????????? 1 Year, 3 Months ago
On the right underside of the engine, there is a drain plug that takes a 10mm socket to get it out.I took the plug out and there was a small amount of oil that drained onto my finger tip. Should this drain have alot of oil coming out of it. Oh , What is this drain plug for ? I Have a 2003 roadstar

Both oil plugs are 17 mm. I think you might have hit the transfer case drain.

It's not the transfer case drain, I changed the transfer oil and found that plug.. It is under the motor and it was definetly enging oil that came out,(a very small amount) I just dont know if there should be alot of oil coming out or if any oil should be coming out or if i'm gonna burn something up cause of no oil. Sorry if I am confusing this.

Hmmmm .... did you remove the dipstick.

If it's the oil drain plug then you didn't have enough oil in the bike. I should come out like a flood.

I believe that's the oil pressure check port. If you have your bike at a mechanic they can put an oil pressure gauge on it to check. I have an oil pressure gauge on mine and I had to pull that bolt out to install it.

Read your owners manual and it will give you a picture of the two oil plugs you remove neither are 10mm.
You might have taken one of the case bolts out which would have some oil on it
Good Luck! I know I didn't know there was two oil drains and couldn't figure out why only 1 1/2 qts of oil would go in

YOU got it .. an M8 x 12 washer head bolt with a copper sealing washer that has a M10 hex head

it is where I put my oil pressure guage as well

If you're talking about the plug directly below the center of the cylinders (front to back), but along the right-side of the engine bottom, then yep, that's not an oil drain.

I guess you could call it an oil pressure access plug. The service manual actually references the smaller plug that's immediately under one of the chrome oil delivery tubes as the one to attach an oil pressure gauge. Anyway, all those access plugs (there are 5, I think) are called Oil Gallery Bolts or Sight Plugs. This is because they allow visual access directly in to the important oil movement lines and bearings.

Sorry to join in this discussion at the tail end.
