Belt noise 6 Years, 6 Months ago
Ok, As you can tell from my other post, I am new to this bike. When I roll the bike forward wothout the engine running, it sounds like the belt is making a constant noise as if there were a car on the showroom tile floor and you turn the wheels. It makes a hard to describe noise and I was wondering if it even is the belt. Maybe it is too tight ? I don't know maybe it is just in my head.

New bike? My belt doesn't squeak but my tires do in my garage. Might check the wheel alignment
and the belt tension.

Not sure what noise you are talking about but check the belt tension by twisting the lower belt half way between the pulleys. You should be able to twist it about 45 degrees. Or you can by a belt tension gauge at HD shops. Also take the front pulley cover off and see if the white rollers are stuck or bent. Couple things to check anywho.

Mine squeaks on the garage floor. What Musky and smhowse said.
If it sounds like a grinding it could be your brake pads rubbing
the rotors. That's normal.

miller502,

I had a small collection of noises (whirring, clicking...) and a tiny, tiny mystery leak. Checked the belt tension, and it turns out the guys who assembled it at the dealership cranked it way too tight. Loosened it up, and so far, all others gone for over 1,200 miles.

Now, as for all the other noises this monster makes....

i would check the belt tension. with the bike up on a lift use a tention guage (most bearing houses that sell v-belts sell them $5-10)push up the center on the bottom half of the belt to deflect it an 1/2" using 10LBS of force on the tensioner and your all set i've done this with the stock set up and my new FAT set up never a chirp or any other noise

I have the same problem. I have learned that the belt tension is too loose. Don't know much and I am new to the clinic too so let me say welcome. These guys are great and have helped me greatly.
