Clutch disengage question 4 Years, 7 Months ago
I have noticed that if I just hold the clutch in to start my bike it moves forward just a bit at first like it isn't disengaged...? I have also tried to roll it forward with just the clutch pulled in while it's still in gear and not running...it doesn't roll...??? I've never had a bike do this and just want to know what's normal.
thanks.

Work the lever a few times before you try and start it. The plates get a little dry when it's setting and get stuck just a bit. It's normal.

Nope ..... I've had mine for many miles and it still does the same thing.

I can't push it when gear with the clutch pulled after sitting overnight.

My 07 Silverado does the same thing. Wont roll in gear with the clutch in not running. Also lurches forward a hair when you start it in gear with the clutch lever in. I just attribute it to the wet clutch as someone already mentioned. You'll notice after a quick ride that when you get back on it works fine then. Oil needs warmed up I guess. Hope this helps.

cool...I'm glad it's not just me... I never had the issue with the intruder...maybe because of the hydraulic clutch?
thanks again.

Yes they all do it mine will do it after 13000 miles. I always leave mine in neutral anyway so it no big deal but if I stall it while riding it doesn't do it. Just the nature of the beast.

It's not "what" you ride, it's "that" you ride.

My '05 does the same thing. I used to start it in neutral, warm it up and then put it in first to go, but for the last few months the clutch sticks so hard that she will conk out after putting the tranny into gear. The transmission sounds like I am slamming it into gear when I try it. What I have to do now is warm her up in neutral, then before I go, cut the engine, put her into gear and restart. This seems easier on the tranny. For the first year she only did this after having sat for a long time (a few weeks).

thanks for the info...mine never sits more than a day or 2...all year long. I ride to work most days at about 25 miles round trip...46K on the last bike in 3 years... It sure saves wear and tear on the truck. LOL. Maybe when I change oil I'll try synthetic and see if it helps.

Mine does it in the morning and after work. I'm running synthetic. It's just some the Roadies do.
