Rear brake master cylinder 5 Months, 1 Week ago
I was reading in the tech articles about using a sportster master brake cylinder for replacement on the roadstar and i was wondering if the 58-79 shovelhead wagner type would work? I put the link below .......I am concerned with the capacity ...Has anyone ever used one of this style?

Thanks,
Mark

Mark,

That looks like it's a master cylinder only, if so you would need a seperate reservoir for it or you would need to adapt and re-use the stock one.

It is a nice looking piece, the capacity is not as important because as long as the system is full all the time. I would say the reservoir is built into the one you are looking at It is the bore that has to be right for the pressure; in the tech article here on the site the Harley master has a 3/4 in bore. That is what you need to find out about the one on eBay

It might be hard to see mine in this photo, but RC Components makes a nice rear MC replacement that contains the reservior.

Problem with that master cylinder is the cost! That's why I used the one I did when I wrote up the article.

Danny:

Yeah, that was the downside of the RC Components one...

There are other options. Here's a similar one on Ebay now that's close to the same thing, but <$55.00

With a wired banjo to set off the brake light, it's not too bad of an install.

Rich (or anyone else that knows )

The MC that you sent the link for would that be more or less a bolt on like the RC or would I need to do the weld up like the one in the tech article? I still need to learn how to weld so the $135 bolt on option is looking attractive but $55 is nicer
