Air Filters 3 Years, 1 Month ago
I've been trying to get out of work today by surfing the Internet and 'stumbled' upon a interesting site. The owner had tested 6 air filters.

Take a gander ...... Air Filtration Test

Very interesting read. I still like the K&N for my bike and dislike the OEM as it comes apart to easy. That said I had a K&N in my pickup and the oil sucked out of the filter caused the senser in the air intake to go bad. So I put the paper back in.

I heard about that but I also read somewhere that K&N said their oil does not come off the filter.

Me too, I like the "red" color of the filter, it matches my bike. As far as cleaning, I clean the crap out of it on a regular basis, in fact I am thinking about buying another one to keep on the shelf as a drop in for when I want a clean filter but don't want to take the time to clean it.
That is a very interesting article and I believe him and his results. Those are the kinds of tests that impress me, not the ones that the company's run.

That has to be an old test, Amsoil is working with nano fiber air filters now and have been few years I know of.
Caddyinfo.com tested OEM paper filters against K&N and Paper filters won.
I have a K&N although I don't like them because they do allow more dirt in than stock. But In our case Gas pukes out carb and melts the glue on a stock one which then allows all unfiltered air in, a lot more than a K&N does, So I picked lesser of two evils.

And I don't trust BOB the Oil Guy much each one of his write ups states he didn't have time or money to test any more filters. LOL He does same with oil filters too and oil and so on. What does he seLL?

I am leaning toward the max air I know coach dan has one. I like the no rain cover and there is definitely a mass area for air. I am still open to hear anyone else opinions.

Because you can actualy see through a K&N filter, i've never been sure that they would filter as well as a paper filter. For a road going engine that i, and most of you, would want to last a long time, I prefer the paper filter. I dont think the restriction of paper will cut my performance my an amount that i could feel. 1 or 2 HP is hard to feel.

I will stick to my K&N as I like having some oil on the filter to deter water entry in rain since mine is exposed and the stock box does not have enough air flow for my taste. Also as Howie said the oil tint goes with my bike colors .I think it is kewl the guy took the time to write this up [interesting read] and wish I had the desire and the extra time to run tests like that .I clean [breakdown] my carb at least 1 time a year and spray creep and some water mist in every now and then so as long as I do not find leaves hanging out of the intake I do not worry about it.Even if it was written by someone selling a product I take it with a grain of salt as there is usually something to be learned by me from the data introduced [makes me think]...Coug

Doc,

Really glad you posted that link. We give thought to restriction, but don't necessarily correlate it to filtration.

We all know a K&N will breathe easier, but I never imagined, since it is oiled, that it wouldn't filter better, or at least as well as, paper!

The whole idea is to keep dirt out of the intake charge to spare wear on the cylinder walls and rings... somehow I just thought I was doing my motor a favor by putting a "better" filteration unit on!!! Now I'm finding out that's not so!

Will I change anything? Nah! I like the looks of my universal K&N, and I don't ever touch it with my knee anymore.

Anyone going to make any kind of a switch as a result of that test?
