RoadStar RPM's?? 5 Months, 3 Weeks ago
I've searched in vain trying to determine what RPM's the RoadStar is churning at various speeds. I have a 2009 all stock RoadStar and just installed my Barons tach and although the instructions state the single fire adapter is required I was getting very high RPM readings that just didn't seem to be correct. I just bypassed the adapter and have my tach green wire going directly into the front coil negative terminal. I get the following which I suspect is accurate but wanting to confirm.

AT 2000RPM I am getting the following MPH on the speedo

1st gear = 18mph
2nd gear = 28
3rd gear = 38
4th gear = 47
5th gear = 57

I realize the factory speedo is off give or take 5% but are these readings close?

Thanks!
Rob

Can't remember where I read it but that sounds about right.

Baron's tach you don't need the adapter I am running two of them and no adapter. Your speeds are correct.

Thanks. After installing the adapter per the now known to be incorrect instructions (thru 2007 don't require/2008 and up do require) to both coils (that 2nd coil under the tank was fun!) and way too much time spent trouble shooting I'm just glad to get it finally working correctly. It was also bouncing all over the place and now its dead on accurate with no bounce whatsoever...

You're readings seem pretty much on with mine but I still get the bounce, usually at idle. I know when I am running on the highway in 5th at 75-80mph i'm hitting 2500-2800 rpm

Have to remember that the speedometer is off by as much as 7 to 10%. When my speedo shows 75 mph I am only running 69 mph on my gps. That will change your RPM by as much as 200 if you take it into consideration.
