Installing Apes for the 1st time 5 Months ago
Well first of all Merry Christmas to everyone!. I got a set of mini apes for my roadie and couldn't wait to install them. I just have a couple of questions.

Is there any particular rules when it comes to the angle of the bars. Should they be straight up and down or tilted toward the rider inline with the forks or does any of that matter?

Also my stock bars have a screw in weight for the stock grips and the new bars don't have that. Is there any quick remedy there or do I need to purchase a complete set of new handle grips?

THanks guys!
Brian.

Brian:

1. Straight up or kicked just a little forward looks best, as long as it's comfortable for you. The more forward, the harder it is to steer.
2. Most apes aren't going to support the weights on the end. You could probably make it work with a little creativity. But, most(including me) don't run them in the ends of the bars.

And, welcome to the "Cool Club". We'll need pics, soon...

I think the rule is 'comfort', but like Rich said too far forward is harder to steer. Merry Christmas.

Re:Installing Apes for the 1st time 5 Months ago
Well I had them like Rich said and found them to be comfortable, at least just sitting on the bike for now. However when I test fitted putting my Windshield back on. (I ride with it on sometimes). It hit the bars. I moved the bars back enough to squeeze in getting the shield back on so now the bars are almost lined up with the forks. Ugh!

So any aftermarket bar end should work fine then? I apparently need to also drill a little hole so that this little divot on the throttle controls side can line up and clamp down.

There's no knurling either on these bars. I thought that was odd. I guess I have to make sure I tight the heck out of the clamp so they never rotate.

Ive got mine in line with the forks but its up to you remember comfort over cool sometimes Dont worry about end weights like it was mentioned most arent running them anyways. I have drilled the little hole your talking about for throttle . Its easy just be careful and I just keep the risers tight and dont worry about knurling
And yes welcome to the cool club

Well got it all done!. Bought a set of Kuryakyn ISO Grips. Everything lined up and all back together.

After the 1st ride I gotta say. WOW!. anyone thats even the slightest bit on the fence about some apes. (even mini apes). GO FOR IT!. It completely makes the bike feel so different in a good way!.

I would have probably leaned the bars up further but I have short arms already and it would have only made me lean forward more. The way I have them now I can put my windshield on should the desire hit me.

Here's a few pics.

Thanks guys!

and one more after I put the bike back in the garage.

Thanks Rich!. Can't believe I put it off this long.

I like how yours angle back. Seems to give yours the best look on your bike!.
