Window shopping for pipes 1 Year, 3 Months ago
|
|
So I started to look at new pipes that I would like to get over the winter and came up with the 3 choices based on looks and price.
1. Cobra Lo-Boy Shotgun
2. Samson Shogun Cannons
3. Bub Big Willy
I would like to find out what everyone thinks of the pipes on my list.
Also, could I get away without rejet with any of them, if that is all I change (no modes to airbox), I am happy with the bikes performance, I do not have a big need to increase power of the bike at this time. Just looking to upgrade the sound and looks (just love the shotgun look).
Thanks, DarekC

I have the Lo-Boys. I like em a lot. They don't have the deep rumble that a lot of people want. They're more of a hotrod sound. Cobra has sound clips on their site. I asked them and they said the clip of the Lo-boys on a Roadie were for real on a Roadie. Not just a universal sound clip. You don't have to jet with just pipes. You might at most have to tweak the PMS but I would ride it first and see.

I have a set of samsons, They are slip ons, but I love the deep sound that they produce. They are fairly quiet until you apply fuel and of course you have to apply fuel, air and grip:.....woohoo: ... ...

You bet ya. I don't know of any pipes you would need to jet for if you aren't touching the airbox.

I'm confused(big surprise huh) LOL Everyone I've talked to keeps tellin me that I have to jet the bike if I change the pipes. And I've noticed on the Stage 3 it recommends re-jetting as well. If I dont have to rejet then I really see stage 3 in my future soon. Can you clarify this Musky?

Yes. Dealers and pipe manufacturers are freakin jet happy. And they always jet you too rich anyway. Punch your pipes and enjoy. At most you might have to tweak the PMS 1/8 to 1/4 turn. But that's not a sure thing either. Ride it and find out before you change anything. Now if you do the poormans BAK or get an aftermarket airkit you need to jet.
Add on - I put the Cobra pipes on mine with a K&N filter in the stock airbox without jetting.

Yeah I agree with musky, when I first bought my bike I put on just pipes, cobra speedster longs, and the dealer rejeted so rich that my mpg went to 32,35 mpg it ran better on the trip to the dealer than on the way home. After I installed my BAK & ported manifold I rejeted my self " with the help of "experts" and now my mpg is in the 40s.
