Won't hurt anything. You won't have to change anything. You also probably won't notice any difference in the way your bike runs. The stock airbox is pretty restrictive even with a better flowing filter like the K&N. But you will have a lot better and longer lasting filter than the paper stocker.

What are you comfortable doing. You can do the job yourself.

Judging by what they told you about the filter, and this is just my opinion, I wouldn't trust them. But they also might do a great job. Hard call. Do you have any other dealers or independants in your area?

Re:K&N Air Filter 4 Years, 7 Months ago
I've only owned the bike since January. I had them do the 12,000 tune up, and here is what got me, I got the bike back FILTHY. I mean come on, clean up the oily handprints and make it look somewhat presentable. The thing is with this tune up is that I need new tires, and I am getting the Michelin Commander tires, and I can't put them on myself. If I had the repiar manual (which I have no clue on where to get) would it show me how to do the tune up myself?

My Dealer told me NOT to put in the K&N air filter because the oil screws up the carberator. I put it in anyway because I have used them for many years on every thing else I own.

Re:K&N Air Filter 4 Years, 7 Months ago
The oil will only screw up a carbureted bike of you absolutly SOAK the filter with it, and even then it'll probably only soot up the plugs. On something fuel injected though, and especially something with a mass air sensor or similar the oil can cause problems, but again I think if you are careful with the oil you'll be OK. A lot of people make the mistake of adding more oil to the filter between services because it is no longer bright red and they think the oil is gone. The red color fades over time, even though the oil is still there.

Yeah, should I be looking for something else? I plan to get new pipes and jet the bike, and if I can figure out how to get the carb off, I'm going to port the manifold tomorrow!
