There's a memory that's kept alive by the battery. Ride the bike some and the fuel gauge will probably come back up to where it was.

Even though it sweeps....unplug and plug the green wire in...the one under the seat coming out from under the tank. Maybe it got loose while pulling the battery. These gauges are known to go bad....personaly I went thru 2. But, I havent heard of the 08s having that problem. I thought they had that problem fixed by now.
+1 what texasscott1 said.

Re:08 roadstar fuel guage 1 Year, 3 Months ago
My fuel gauge problems started while in Sturgis in aug 2010. I gassed up and for the first time, since I owned the bike, the gauge didn't move. About 10 miles down the road it finally started to adjust til finally it showed full. This was pretty much the routine for the rest of that trip and for the remainder of the riding season 2010.
In the spring of 2011....gauge finally stopped moving all together and laid there dead. so for 2011 I used the tripometer to approximate when I needed to fill up. worked ok...
Sooo...after researching these forums I saw how easy it was to replace sender unit. Ordered it and swapped it out yesterday....voila....gauge works again and I'm hoping problem solved..
thanks once again guys for sharing.
