noisy clutch 1 Year, 3 Months ago
|
|
took my bike out yesterday for a short ride and once again, the scraping noise i have complained about here many times started right up... i am now 95% certain it is coming from the clutch..it sounds like one spot is hitting something causing a loud scraping sound.the more rpms the faster it gets..gets worse under load and lighter when coasting. My clutch does not slip or feel faulty but now im gonna have to go in there and see what the problem is. The sound stops when i pull the clutch in..no matter how fast i am rolling.I am a life-long machinist and mechanic so im sure i can wade my way thru this..but it seems very extensive taking our clutch out of the bike..im going barnett for sure since its gotta come apart anyway...the clymer manual makes it sound like the job from hell..is it really that complicated to do a clutch in the roadstar ??? Any advice from you guys?? my bike has about 9k on it but was previously wrecked before i got it 2 years ago.. it is an 07. Thanks, Mike

Read this. After reading the Clymers and roadstar factory manual, I thought WTF
This makes it sound a little easier for clutch spring. I did not replace the clutch plates but they just fell out

Yes I installed the Barnett clutch spring conversion myself. I like it a lot.
The hardest part was the 2 weeks it took me to scrape off the old gasket from the engine

I watched Jim at No Pork do my Barnett conversion and he did it in a little over an hour. Luckily, the cover gasket came right off! I like it a lot and the lever pull is not too bad.

What kind of oil are you running?
My clutch was noisy until I switched back to YamaLube. Quieted right back down.

+1 on that, I actually think it took longer to scrape the gasket than changing the clutch, went with a Barnett also, love it!! I try to make it slip and cant Very easy procedure and with your mechanical background it will be a piece of cake. Hope whats making the noise is part of what you will be replacing.

It is an easy job, and the gasket can be a real pain... mine was, but what would be causing the scraping noise???
