Thanks to all for the tips. I am a little nervous about cutting on the pipe and not sure exactly how to do the work. Dave, I'd like to know more details on your work - how far back from the end of the pipe did you cut? How can I get this from you?

Re:Exhaust 2 Years, 9 Months ago
I'm usually on this board every 2 days or so... same time I check my e-mail.. so I can follow up here... I cut the inner pipe with my dremmel about 1/2 of an inch back, this allows the outer cone to fall out.. I then cut it flush with the back plate (since I could see it. I could come closer to flush without risking cutting to far back - instant stage 3) once I've got the inner pipe flush with the back plate, I simply took a marker and marked the 4 posts I was going to leave, using a center punch I punched out 2 spots for my 1/2 inch drill bit per opening, I then drilled them out... I don't know if it would have been easier to drill 1/8 inch holes all the way around where the opening would be, and then cut it with the metal burr.. but I suspect that would be the case, and if I ever do it again for anyone, I will try to do it that way... with the 2 1/2 holes I spent a lot of time grinding out the corners... once I was done, I stuck a 1/2 inch gas hose in the end of my shop vac and duct taped it in place and sucked all the shavings out... after that I took some time and masking taped around the edge of the chrome.. I then took a can of flat black spray paint that can handle super high temps (pick up at lowes / home depot) and sprayed the inside let it dry and viola... ~Guido

If you feel better e-mailing I use:
closed@neo.rr.com but like I said, I check this board as often as I check e-mail

I did stage 3 and the exhaust sounded awesome.
Since I had set of Cobras Classic complete system on order... I decided to mount them .. when they arrived Curosity killed the ..... The Cobras have removable baffles wrapped in fibreglass and look good They have a deep tone but quite a loud bark. I was able to lower the passenger floorboards The bike runs well on both Did the AIS and I dont think I need to rejet. Slightly different sound but both have good points. Im still undecided on which is best.

I don't like LOUD pipes, have had a few and ended up changing them out.
I was short on cash after buying my RS but the pipes were way to quiet for such a big bike. Besides, I don't think they look bad at all. I had read about the stock modifications and Dave's article with the pics (a while back now) pushed me into trying it. I cut the cone out, drilled 4 1/2 holes, sanded off all the burrs and was done. Was gonna paint the inside but never got around to it, now it's blackened to the point you really can't see in there. The sound is perfect!!! Depending on my mood late at night, I can let the neighbors sleep or wake them up! Have had many compliments on it too. Highly recommend it...

Re:Exhaust 2 Years, 9 Months ago
This site has helped me out a lot. I recently tried the Torque Cones. I am currently running V&H L/S and I wanted them louder. After removing the baffles and installing the Torque Cones the sound is just where I like it. The only thing I screwed up on was not replacing my exhaust gaskets, I kept hearing too much noise from the front of the bike at highway speeds from the engine. Changed out the gaskets and presto. (Advance Auto for .98 cents each Cheap.)Keep up the good work. Thanks, Paul
