First off: from beautiful downtown Crawford,Ga !
Went pumpless (w/the Suzuki float needle & orriface) on my '00 about 4 yrs. ago. Only drawback is the motor doesn't like to run off the bottom 1/3 of the tank.
I've got the 'scooter down for some cosmetic tweaking. I think I'm going to install the Mikunl vacuum pump & see if that will correct the situation.

Let me know how that goes more interested in that one. Really dont want to do any carb work. I can manage the manifold and pump, plus my speciality is electronics just not needles and carbs

If you've been as far as the manifold, the insides of the carb shouldn't pose any trouble at all. It is to easy to get rid of the pump. It really is an uncomplicated procedure. The Tech Articles, and search feature here alone can get you through. The bonus of having live help here on the forum, makes this a relatively easy thing to accomplish.

I did the suzi 2.5 needle and seat, and reset the float level while I was in there, to the 04 and later spec. I installed a fuel filter in the line after it turns down from the petcock(I used one of the factory formed right angle hoses from the pump assembly, to turn down), and vented the cap.
I was running just fine when I filled up yesterday, after the fuel light had been on for about four or five miles already, without switching to the reserve. The inline fuel filter vertically oriented, seems to stop the stumbling issues as the tank gets closer to empty. Air bubbles in the line, are given a chance to get out of the flow, and return to the tank(that's the theory anyway ).

"The Girl's" look just fine by the way.

I just want to say that vacuume pumps have a "glitch" that you have to be aware of, And that is if the diaphram cracks it will fill the crankcase with gas if they pull the vacuume line off of the crankcase to operate the pump.

My wife has a Yammy golf cart that she terrorizes the neighborhood with and that just happened last week.

If it uses the vacuume port on the manifold, it will just flood the engine quickly

I changed my fuel pump 2 years ago. I replaced it with one from NAPA part # 610-1051. It was less than $ 50.00. Took out the tool kit from under the seat and mounted it in its place. The pump comes with 2 mounting holes. I cut one off to make it fit in the space and used a hex washered head tek screw to attach it.

i have a 1999 road star and just took off the pump, removed the little screen on the Carb where the gas hose hooks to, put an open hose on the vent at the top of the tank, a short gas hose from tank to Carb and it runs great. Didn't do any thing to the needle or float.
