05 Road Star exhaust options 2 Years, 9 Months ago

Hi! I'm new to the clinic and look forward to our future interactions!
I have a new 05 RoadStar Midnight built up with bags, backrest, some bling, etc. but am anxious/wary about changing the exhaust. I love the look of the HardKrome Big Straights, but worry they'll be way too loud. I want more rumble than stock, but not obnoxious. Has anyone used the Star Accessories drag pipes? Any good? I'm looking for suggestions. THANKS!

Drag pipes are much louder than stock as the baffle is not effective enough to dampen the exhaust noise substantially.
Sad to say but you're going to have to go out there and listen to a few styles to see what is "to loud" for you.

I'm new, too, and share the same problem. Since the option of buying new pipes leaves me holding the old ones, I'm thinking of trying the stage 3 conversion suggested by Fatbikes. If I screw it up, I can always go with the first option of buying new. My buddy went with Vance and Hines 2 into 1 and has an acceptable sound, but not too loud. I want more noise. Loud pipes save lives!!

I did stage 3 and was impressed with the rumble ..sounded real nice on the 2005
I am trying out a set of Cobras with removable baffles in. They are fibreglass wrapped ..the sound clip on my web site is of the Cobras more bark to the Cobras and like the classic looks myself but stage 3 is low rumble not too loud in my opinion
Without the Clinic here... I would still believe Stage 3 had something to do with
the launch of the Space Shuttle

Post edited by: Pop Rivet, at: 2006/03/25 02:40

Heres how we got Loud and proud with minamal loss of horsepower if any. Cobra 2" Drag Pipes and cut the baffles down to 5" MAKE SURE TO REFLARE THE CUT END that way you still get good back pressure. Used stage 2 Dynojet kit for now. Will soon purchase the Dyno 3000 Ignitin Box and big air kit. Take Care God Bless and Ride Safe , Mike

Thanks to EVERYONEs responses! What a tremendous resource we have here. I especially like the one reference to Stage 3 being a reference to a shuttle launch - well I guess a Roadie with the right pipes will just about sound that good! Still wondering if anyone has used the Star Accessories drag pipes as opposed to the popular aftermarket sets. Anyway, I'll check in when I make a move - Stage 1 seems most likely for now. Thanks again!

Just put a set of the speedstar drag pipes on a friends 2004 roadstar 1700 along with speedstar air cleaner and speedstar jet kit this week. Those pipes sound good, but they are loud, especially with the windshield on. Hope this helps.

I just did the 2 into 1 speedstar pipe on my 04 roadie. Added the speedstar air kit and jetted the bike with a Baron's jet kit (my opinion it's the best). The sound is very nice. Low, throatie rumble but doesn't set off car alarms either. It is much louder than stock -- that and performance is what we're after. This pipe delivers both. Very nice sound - huge increase in performance. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.

I am thinking of going with 2 into 1 pipes on my 04 roadie for the low end horsepower gain (well, that and they look cool.) Right now I like the Cobra 2 into 1s, but I wonder how much louder than stock they are? Has anybody installed them that can give me an estimate?
Thanks!

I can tell you from my experience that the 2 into 1 pipe delivers an incredible amount of power. I don't know how they perform without the air kit though. My bike gained an impressive amount of torque throughout the rpm range. The sound is a little like a combination between a high-end sports car and a dragster but maintains the some of the rumble you get with twin pipes. It is LOUD though. When you twist into it people will hear you.
I love my setup and only wish I would have done it sooner.
