cut off and will not start 1 Year ago

My dad started his bike to warm it up. It started fine ran normally. He walked away from it to do something in his shop, while in the shop he heard a squeak than it killed. He tried to start it and it will not turn over. After looking over a few things he checked the oil and is was above the fill line (higher then where it was after the last oil change). Good battery, turn on key, fuel pump runs, hit the start button, starter in gages but will not turn over. Any clue as to what may be the problem? Thanks,

Contact a dealer.Yamaha keeps track. Check around the vin# and see if there are any center punch marks, some dealers mark them when they do it.

Since you say the motor will not turn over!
Can you raise the bike on a lift? If so you need to see if you can manualy turn the motor over by turning the rear wheel while in gear on a jack. I would pull the plugs first to make sure there is no compression on the motor, your only trying to see if the motor will spin over. Once you have done that then come back and we can go from there. If the motor has been over filled with to much oil it could be locked up. Removing the plugs will allow air space for the motor.

Even with the plugs out? Wow that surprises me. That's unfortunate the only other suggestion I would have would be to take the transfer case out of the equasion, by removing the cover and taking the chain off. Then remove the clutch cover and see if you can turn the motor over from there. If the motor is locked up then something interially let go and is binding. You could also pull the cam cover on the right side and look for something broken there but alot of these things unless your willing to tear the motor down and do the repair, you might as well take it to a shop. I would not suggest a dealer unless you have a real real good one, I would look for an indenpent shop that works on V-twins.
