Erbman,

I've just pulled the trigger on a S&S/Gates X3N carbon fibre reinforced belt. Made to resist snapping from high torque engines.

Something to consider.

Thanx for the info, but hopefully I'll be on another bike by the time this one breaks, I won't change before that. Thinking on a crotch rocket. LOL NOT!!! Can-am? NOT!!! HD? Certainly NOT!!!
Triumph triple touring, hmmmm, maybe. Goldwing, nahhh, already got a nice recliner, can always toss a motor on it. lol Ahh, a Ridly, then no more shiftin. Yeah, yeah...that's the ticket! Maybe even the biggest motorized scooter, think the Honda Silverwing is 600cc?

sorry, can't compare, I'm still with stock belt. But low miles for an "01" only 146k. LOL

Erbman, are you saying the stock/original belt on your bike has 146K miles on it & is still going?

If thats the case WOW!!!!!!

Other then not abusing your bike is there anything you did to the belt & or pulleys etc to extend the srv'c of the belt on your bike.

I got just under 5,000 on the one that broke today. Clutch cable snapped and before I could get off to the side of the road (of one of the best memorial bike ride events / 2000 bikes), the darn belt snapped as it was lugging to a stop. Couldn't find neutral fast enough...

$125.00 towing bill.
$65.00 replacement clutch cable.
$200.00 replacement belt.
Missing the best ride of the year, priceless...

It wasn't a scheduled drinking night tonight, but...

It's the original. And I wouldn't say I don't abuse my bike, I've put it thru it's paces, that's for sure. The front pully was replaced 99k miles ago. A week before the tranny recall, had the gear oil leak, dealer said to tighten the nut, yep, it was loose, even with the tabs bent. Any way, during tranny breakdown, dealer called and told me pulley and drive shaft damage. My theory, since it not a maintenance part to tighten pulley, sits behind a cover, only way to get loose was not tq'ed at factory. Dealer agreed, Customer service involved, told them same, they called dealer, they confirmed, had pully and drive shaft at dealer next day, no charge. Bike in shop 3 days, and tech who did my tranny, had already done about 75, so yep, well qualified tech. Too bad he passed last yr, got some good tips, as well as some carb things he did.
So anyway , back to belt. Maybe my shift pattern helps too?
