Any luck with ebay motors? 1 Year ago
My 02 RS 1600 (48,xxx miles) had a bad thing happen a couple of weeks ago while on a trip. I thought I heard a very slight tapping at highway speeds, but the people I was with couldn't hear it. There was no change in performance or power, but 15 miles later there was a loud pop, a cloud of black smoke and a lot of clanging. The motor died and I pulled over immediately. My wrench hasn't had the space in his shop to take a look at it yet, but said it didn't sound very promising. He recommended going with a used engine instead of a rebuild, if it's needed, would be a less expensive route. We will know more when he gets to take a look at it. I've called a couple of local (Dallas) bike junk yards and they don't currently have any RS engines. Could I go with a 1700 or have to stay with a 1600? Any suggestions or recommendations?

I bought a bike on Ebay Motors before my Yamaha, had great luck with it, but it sounds like you really need to wait and found out exactly what the problem is before jumping the gun to much, good luck

Here is a link to a vendor on Ebay that I have dealt with. Very good customer service and they dont mind taking phone calls about the items listed either. Also they have a few engines listed that are just the engine/trans without parts you probably dont need.
