Triple Tree Top Mods ???? 11 Months, 3 Weeks ago
I picked up this up at the salvage today for starting mock up on my Carlini Apes.

One of the things I have been pondering is using a hardened hollow bolt for the risers to run wires down thru, but was wondering what the real purpose of the rubber bushed riser holes are for??? Because of how the hardware on the under side is bolted when the risers are in place they dont provide for any vibration damping. So my thought was to eliminate the rubber center completely leaving a hole large enough for a custom riser setup that would allow for wiring and cables to pass through the hollow riser bolts thus further hiding everthing above the triple tree top.

So, thoughts arguements, no I shouldn't do that's ???? Im throwing my thoughts out and asking for feedback.

I don't think they matter that much other than vibration dampners,I used smaller washers under mine so they didn't contact the tree, you could alway not out factory bushings and maybe use a nylon sleeve around.the bolt when you assemble it,would look good if you.can run wires like you want though, just not sure if hollow bolt is strong enough for all the vibration, maybe someone who has done this will chime in,bump. Good luck

All that I can add is it's a BITCH to remove those bushings.
I hit them with a 2 pound hammer, used a torch, tried a bolt and washer set up to press them out. Finally used a big hydralic press and that took a lot. But finally worked

On my bike with the chopper kit there is just a 1/2 in hole in the top triple tree and I don't notice any difference with vibrations. I like your idea with the hollow bolts but I would be concered about strength. Just my 2 cents worth.

You can do that... or... you can drill the top clamp and run the wires down that hole... I drilled two holes in mine where the wires come out if the bars... the wiring goes straight down and is never seen unless you look really hard for them...

Thanks for all the input.

Grinder, Im planning on doing internal cables as well and want to hide everything.

DocT, Im still working it out in my head, but its looking like it will be either a 7/8 or 1in. bolt hollowed out to about 9/16

Vic, thanks for the heads up on getting them out, will just go to my buddies machine shop and use his 50K press it'll be like butta
