If Steve's cable sheath was stretched, he might have ended up with real lean settings to compensate...

Bump. A little more feedback and we can wrap this into a tech tip in our tech tips section.

Hey Gram

I was thinking that too but with him cutting off that much and still needing more I wanted to cover all the bases. Plus I don't want to sound like I'm pushing this as a cure for everything. I don't want to sound like I'm saying you don't have to check anything just chop some off the knob. DAMN. That sounded painful. Why did I say that?

I think I might possibly maybe most likely leave my knob alone unless I know it's stretched...

I agree Musky. I think its a fix for stretched sheaths only, not jetting problems. If someone finds that they have stretched it out, they can use this method to potentially get back to something more like stock.

Then the normal jetting steps need to be followed. It is NOT a fix for jetting problems, although it can be a contributor or part of the equation. Folks need to inspect their cables first to see if they have been stretched before trying this.

But if they are stretched, and its not a huge amount, this is a good idea.

How many times can you put the word "stretched" into a post ?

Dang Musky...you made me flinch. Just an update from me... Today I started my bike, first time since last week, and the MCF experiment. Since I havent heard it in awhile I wanted to see and hear the difference upon startup. All I can say is... Pulled the choke halfway, fired it up, ran 10 seconds then pushed it most of the way back in and just listened to it "Thumpin" For me something worked. It hasnt sounded like that in a long time. Well it made it up to 47 degrees ...i'm oughta here.

Re:Choke cable 1 Year, 2 Months ago
Rode my bike to work today and pulled the rear plug as soon as I got here (about 25miles 40degrees burrr)they were a dark gray/brown color. Last time I checked it (a while ago) it was black sooty. That was when I adjusted the PMS from 2 1/2 turns to 1 1/2. I can't start it without the choke. I'm going to stop by the stealer on the way home and pick up some new plugs. Tomorrow is garage day at my house helping a couple of other guys fix their R*'s. (Sad that I'm the most experienced ) Works out good they bring the beer I screw with their bike
