Road Star wheel compatibility 1 Year ago
I know this probably has been discussed. but if someone could direct me to the answer ... What year wheels will work on a 1999 Road Star, besides the 2ooo-2oo3. I am looking at the stock spoke mag's off of an 05 to use on my bike. What years will work? Thanks

Spokes worked on my 08. So, I would have to assume XV1700 wheels work on the XV1600.

The only difference would be the rear pulley. I think the 05 has the narrower belt.

When I see wheels for the Road Star, i almost always see them grouped together as 99-03 or 04 to present. I wonder why they are sold that way??? VERY NICE bike by the way. Well done.

It's been discussed before that the spacers on the rear wheel/axle are different on the 2 groups. I believe the front is a direct exchange. Just get the right spacers and you should be good to go.

And, you may have to use your old rear pulley if the 05 wheels use a narrow belt.

Yup. All you need is the spacers from the rear wheel and re-use your pulley as the 99-03 had a 1.5” belt and the 04-current use a 1 1/8” belt.

If anyone has a set of spacers for an 04 and up rear wheel I will buy it. The Stealership wants 39.50 for a new set.

I haven't seen it mentioned but you'll also need the pulley hub from the newer cast rear wheel. The bearing and inner spacer setup is different and to use your '99 hub you would need to replace the bearings.

They're kind of high on the rear spacers. MSRP from Yamaha is $26.27.
