if you change to the later calipers, you do NOT have to change the rotors
been running the 4 pot calipers with non floating discs on my `01 for the last 7 years with no adverse effects whatsoever.
remember, opposed piston calipers were working fine before floating discs came on the market, and funnily enough they still do.
the 2 piston sliding calipers are adequate, but little more. the rear with 4 pistons on a non floating disc are very good, possibly having a brembo master as standard helps there.
using the brakes from the `04 up, or R6 or R1 (the same on all of them ) with braided lines is well worth doing

Thanks erizo. Lots of info. sure it will help. Do the newer calipers bolt right on???
same hole spacing, so no modifications needed.
the later handlebar master cylinder is a good idea. you can use the original and itīll work well, but the feel at the lever will be a bit wooden and lacking in feedback.

Sounds like I need to get 04 and up parts. Remember, I used to a Warrior and a Buell.
save your money. put HH pads on the back and oem stock on the front. Bleed both front and back and ride.
I've also noticed if I don't bleed brakes yearly on my bike, the brakes get soft.

RIch,
Sintered is just the type of compound. They tend to look like they've been painted with copper paint. FYI- HH Sintered pads were created for sport bikes and while grabbing harder, they have less feel and eat up rotors quickly. Not to mention, they can lock up your wheels way more easily too, which can be a real bad thing. I'd make sure you've tried everything else before you go with the HH.
Update: I just recalled that EBC recently released a Semi-Sintered pad for the Roadstar. EBC sent me a free set for testing their clutch spring, but I haven't tried them out yet. They're supposed to be the best of both worlds and are designed specifically for big v-twin cruisers.
Dennis Kirk sells them: https://www.denniskirk.com/1907210.sku?utm_source=pricegrabber&utm_medium=cse

The world breaks everyone, and afterward, *some* are strong at the broken places.

Thanks, Doc V.
I've got an email in to Stadium Yamaha looking for "plug & play" calipers that will improve the braking power of my 2000. Just turning every stone to improve them. Not ready to move on anything just yet.

I have read about the stainless braided cables elsewhere on this forum. Tom noticed a big change in his braking after we flushed his, and I think mine are a lot more solid as well. I would imagine, they bled the whole rear system the other day when they overhauled your rear caliper, Rico, but if you haven't bled the brakes up front as well, you might want to try that first.
