Put it in 5th gear, and roll it forward 6 or 8 feet in gear to move things around in the motor, and see if that helps.

Check all your connectors in the headlight bucket. One of mine had some very slight play in it -- so slight I could barely see it or feel it, and that was the cause.

Mine is doing similar. Cranks but no spark. Checked fuses, starter relay, battery, coils, connections, all good. Lights are strong. Have a dyna 3000, guess that's my next stop. Anyone have any thoughts?

forgot to mention. when I was disconnecting battery, battery cable sparked against screwdriver. could I have shorted out dyna unit?

You want to disconnect the negative cable first. Once the ground is disconnected you cannot short anything out like you describe.

We had a member with an issue like this a few months back, and it turned out to be the "pickup coil" inside the clutch cover. You can test for that. Clymers has the specifics. You might check under the left side cover. When it is removed, look towards the bottom, and you'll see a two wire connector that is attached to some wires coming out of the area of the clutch. You could disconnect this, and makes sure it looks clean and then reconnect it again. Those are the pickup coil wires. If their not making good contact, it'd mess with the rest.

What is the voltage on your battery? Check without trying to crank it and then check it when you try and crank it see what the draw is on it. I would pull the right side cover and the dash and use contact cleaner on all the plugs and make sure they are clean and tight.
