Fuel Injection 11 Months ago
I see a lot of info on carbs and jetting but not so much on injected bikes, 2008 & later.
Has anyone had any problems with O2 sensors or injectors. My 08 seems to be noisy when
warm, particularly at small throttle increases, moderate speeds ( 55 ) in 5th. Sounds like
it's coming from front left, checked valves, their OK. No signs of an exhaust leak so I'm
thinking a fuel, intake issue. Disappears, or drowned out, when throttle opened & at speed.
Anyone with similar experience, a heads up would be appreciated.

Re:Fuel Injection 11 Months ago
I get the impression that the fuel injection system is just THAT GOOD! Most of the issues we see here for fuel injected bikes are when people try to install aftermarket ECUs Like the ones from Cobra and Vance & Hines.

For the noise you hear, you might try a tank of mid-grade fuel, but my own experience tells me, from the conditions you describe, that the noise you hear is just part of the nature of the bike, and is not anything to worry about. These engines have a fairly good sized bore and a long stroke. To me, it sounds a little like piston slap, put I just don't worry with it any more. I've got 48K on the clock with it, and no problems.
Anyone else?

I have the '09 but I haven't noticed anything accept the usual noise the Yamaha makes when it get warm. They seem to be inherently noisy when hot.

Mine always has been. Some say 20-50 oil helps, but I didn't notice.

I'm wondering why you're in 5th gear at 55mph.
That could be why you're hearing noises.
55 is a 4th. gear speed.

I run 55 in 5th all the time. Mine is not injected though but shouldn't matter as it's the same gearing.

Me too as long as I'm not on a hill or needing quicker acceleration.

I'll do 5th at 55 straight and level, but if the road inclines, she makes a little racket. That's how I was aware of what he's talking about. Old Big Twin H-D's kinda make the same noise when you are bringing the RPM out of the basement with a load on the drivetrain.

Re:Fuel Injection 11 Months ago
I have a tach and have noticed they don't like running under 2k rpm's especially under load. I am never in 5th under 65-70mph... you are way out of the torque curve in 5th at 55mph. I like to twist the throttle and have her respond vs. waiting for her to chug on up to the power band...

re the noise... I did have a strange noise that was perplexing me for some time. My aftermarket air cleaner (Hypercharger) mounting bracket had cracked. It mounts in 3 places and one of the mounts split right in half but still stayed nice and snug together... I kept hearing this odd sound but could not find the source until it got so loud I finally tore through the bike one day and found the cracked bracket.. Is your bike completely stock??

Other than that my 2009 has been all good no issues... I have aftermarket pipes and airkit...
