most all of my riding is in town, with a very little bit highway at 70....and I'm averaging 32mpg, best yet was last Friday on the ride I took with friends, I got 42 on the first tank and 38 on the second....that's with my '08 FI
but I do have a hard time with my wrist, I can't seem to stop it from twisting too far

Never leave reserve. I trust my gauge. 220 miles was the furthest I have gone on 1 tank. I was starting to worry at that point too. The bike avgs 46mpg at 70mph, on premium fuel, and I can prove that the mileage will drop if I run regular.
someone had to reference fuel grade.

My first fuel up, on 87, got 44 mpg, 50/50 hwy/city, hwy speed is around 60mph..I'm happy, getting ready for an 800 mile road trip, going to run premium fuel in it, see if I can bust 50 mpg on the trip...

Ok so i find it imposible to do 70mph for a whole tank i nust cant do it. I live at 80+ with a 50/50 mix of city and highway and im hard on the throttle. So 125 or so miles and im reaching for the fuel valve. For those of you that ”can” behave when do you reach for the reserve?
If I recall properly, you did your own setup for your HSR42.
Did you run your fuel line above or below you intake manifold?
Did you put in a Pingle High Flow Petcock?
Did you drill out the Vent-Tube and remove the rollover valve?
Did you ventilate your gas cap?
FYI, I have a setup from Shane... slightly changed with tweaks to the PMS and Idle and the accel pump to be leaner.
I do not have the Pingle, Have not vented my gas cap nor have I drilled out my vent more. I do have the fuel line and filter above the intake and have NO valleys that can capture bubbles.
I get about 165 before I have to turn to reserve playing nice. About 140 crankin it.
yea. i did do the 45 and tps up myself and im still at the "tweak or not phase" but i vented the cap, 5/16" line over the manifold, high flow filter, stock fuel valve. i still have not filled up my bike or hit the resurve this time but the low fuel light just came on on the way home at about 130 miles on the tank. im thinking if i can ever behave and drive at the posted speed limit and not need to feel the torque the roadie puts to the ground i think i could do 150-170 before i need to flip the valve but alas i still have not been able to do it from even when i was tuning the stock carb with my heavy and twitchy wrist and all i think im very close to where the carb needs to be but like i said on the previous posts on this thread i have a problem with driving mundane and like to have to much fun besides people drive 80-85 on the freeway on this side of the state so i fear i would be run down if i did 70

Hit reserve at 190, get 42 - 45 mpg. Drive mostly mountain highway (about 30 miles each way) between 60 - 65, with about 5 miles of city, and 10 miles of back mountain road.

If you would just like to get a few more miles out of a full tank.
Do the filler tube hole punch I think it's explained in the tech.
articales. I can get about another half gal. of fuel in it if I
realy pack it full. I usaualy get about 160 to 180 on a tank full
before the reserve light comes on. and I've pushed it to just over
200 miles on a tank full and still had 1/2 gal in the tank. If you can believe
Yamaha's specs.

You know, I've never moved the reserve lever on my bike since I've owned it for the last 3 years. It's where the PO left it. It's an aftermarket lever I'm assuming, it's chrome with no writing and it's not obvious which way to turn it to be on reserve or regular. You got me thinking now... so do you turn it clockwise or counter-clockwise to open up the reserve?
EDIT: Eh, I'll start a new thread....

Hold on now...I think we need a technical discussion of the "reserve tank." Based on the other thread, someone made it sound like if you switch to reserve with plenty of gas you will run the bike out of gas as the reserve empties.
Is this accurate? Or can you leave the bike on reserve and ride forever provided there's gas in the tank?
