Clutch ? 11 Months, 1 Week ago
I went in and had some work done to my bike. ( carb re-jet ) and overall tune up. Now that the my bike is running right you can feel the clutch starting to slip. I asked the mechanic about putting the Barnett complete clutch kit in and he recommended the Barnett spring kit with factory yamaha plates and steels.

Any input or thoughts would appreciated.

I left the factory clutch plates in mine and it feels great after the coil spring kit. Check to make sure your cable isn't to tight before you do that tho.

I doubt that the friction plates need to be replaced, I know of quite a few that even after 75k miles they were well with-in spec, they had bought the plates prior to even opening up the clutch, only to find they were good after being measured.
I have 148k on mine, over 80k of which is with a double-up spring plate, and I have yet to feel any slipping.

I run a Virago1100 spring plate on top of the stock one.

Also, more than likely it you are just feeling it... your existing Clutch Plates and Discs are 100% ok. You just need to put a New Spring on it.

New springs come in a few different ways:

1) New replacement stock spring (it may happen again)

2) Stack a new stock spring on top of the old one (harder to pull at the lever) but its a great fix

3) New Upgraded replacement Warrior Speedstar 25% uprated spring (less harder to pull at the lever than #2, but still more) and its a great fix

4) New Barnett SR-2 pressure plate and springs kit. (About the same pull as the Speedstar spring #3 but more expensive) and its a superb fix.

Don't forget a gasket. Do not use a hard scraper to get the gasket off the cover or the case, it'll leake if you gourge it in anyway. The Gasket goes over the rubber wire plug. I used a bit of cheap grease to hold the gasket on while I twisted the lever shaft and positioned the cover on properly. And btw, its 69.6 inch pounds of torque, since most ft-lbs wrenches cannot go down that low (5.8 ft-lbs).

Wow thanks for the fast responses, it seems like eBay is the cheapest place to buy the Barnett spring kit, looks like that is what I'll be ordering next.

This sight is awesome.

in the interest of being frugal i just bought a set of EBC springs. They state they are 10% stronger. I like to think of myself as a pretty tough guy does anyone recommend stacking these on the older stock springs?

or just go with the springs?

any other recommendations would be appreciated

I tried and ordered a CSK906 from EBC... it took them over a year to fulfill the order and then the spring was soft.

Be careful.
