Handlebar Shimmy 1 Year, 1 Month ago
I have a shimmy on deceleration between 30-40 mph and I'm not on the brakes in 3rd sometimes 4th gear coming to a stop using engine braking and the handle bars will start to shimmy slightly to the left and right and then progress quickly to almost out of control if you have a light grip on the bars, and I noticed it when I had the factory tires on at about 6000 miles and has done it ever since. Thanks for the help in advance.

Bo

05 Midnight Star 16,500 miles
ME880 White Walls with 7,000 miles(shimmy even when new)
Front tire 36 psi, Rear tire 41 psi
No work done to front end all factory

The steering nut might be loose. Might need grease. Have you checked the alignment of your rear wheel?

I've checked the steering it was tight, I have also checked the rear wheel alignment it was out just little (used the two pipe method to align it) I have noticed the rear tire is starting to wear flat down the middle and is cupping and the front tire is still round but it does have a little feel to it like it is trying to start cupping.

Try measuring from the swing arm pivot to the axle on both sides and see if they are the same. Did it do it when both tires were good?

I will do the measuring, it started with the factory tires at about 6,000 miles (bike and tires).
It still did it when the ME880 was put on new.

I have not checked the shock, Thanks I will check that, I did put on the famous yellow shock(don't know if I am allowed to name companys)at about 2,000 miles, what could it be other than broken mount.

Make sure it's not loose or a crack in the mount
And if you can raise the front wheel off the ground make sure the steering
head is tight by pulling back and forth. Sometimes the nut can seem tight
but it is just loose enough to cause a shimmy.

I did that this evening and it was solid no movement at all, and the handlebars move side to side with ease.
