Roadstar Jetting 2 Years, 9 Months ago
I have a 2004 Roadstar to which I have added HardKrome 2 into 1 sideburners and a K & N Filter. I rejetted with a 182.5 Main and found the bike ran rich and I was getting 125 miles to the tank. I went down to a 175 and the bike is running a lot better, I actually need the choke to warm her up. If I open the bike to WOT and then back off about 1/8 to half way the bike still increases in speed. My mileage isn't much better.

Post edited by: Topher, at: 2006/04/10 21:08

I don't know how much more air your pipes allow, but the current theory on the 1700's is to run the 167.5 main jet with baron's needle (way smaller than stock)I'd try the 167.5 and see if you get "lean" symptoms (feels like it's running out of gas especially on the highway) If it shows any of these symptoms go with the 170. I've got the speedstar K&N filter and modified stock pipes and at 167.5 she's just about perfect touch on the lean side. ~Guido

I've got everything stock on my 2005 R*, and am getting only 30 miles to the gallon. I'm about to go to the Maxair air filter, and hopefully that will help. Any ideas before I change to the Maxair? Thanks! Tdavehrn wrote:

order the jet kit from baron's (I don't work for them, just think they are a good company and most guys think their kit is easiest to adjust).. consider porting your intake manifold while you have the carb off... pick up an impact screwdriver (screwdriver you hit with a hammer while you are applying twisting motion) it's the only way to get the carb bowl screws out don't even try to use a regular screwdriver I did then I had to cut a slot in the screw and use the impact driver real pain in the butt... be careful you don't bump the floats while removing the bowl.. follow all the directions in all the articles you can find here regarding carbs and jetting .. go with a 167.5 jet on the 3rd or 4th slot... and then hunt out ODO on the delphi site for the fine tuning of your carb.... ~guido

Thanks for all the info. I will give her a go with the Barons needle and your suggested settings.

I have an 04 Roadie - added the 2-1-2 speedstar pipes, the speedstar air kit and a Baron's Jet Kit. I started with the 167.5, needle on #4 and the PMS out 2.5 turns. I was running lean. I had hesitation, coughing and the like.

I change to the 170 main, needle on #5, PMS out 3.0 turns -- it seems to have cleared up all the symptoms and I'm getting 48.5 MPG consistantly over last 4 fill-ups.

The weather here is still in the low 50's so my jetting may change slightly when (if) it warms up. I expect to adjust the PMS again...

Hope this helps

I would also add to check and adjust (if needed) your float level before you make any changes and even after. I checked mine after rejetting and replacing the needle valve assembly and it was way to high. Got it set even with the rear mating surface now (05 *).

Update - I just changed out the main jet from the 170 to the 172.5, needle on #5 and PMS out 3.0 turns at Bulldog's suggestion. Still getting the MPGs and a noticable power increase. Smoothed out deceleration.

This is where I'll be leaving my bike.

Re:Roadstar Jetting 2 Years, 8 Months ago
How come my service manual says the 2005 1700 stock main jet is a 182.5
Bsr 40 mikuni carb pilot is 35
would that be on the rich side??
The 1600 stock main jet is 165

the reason im asking is my Cobras seem to run fine actually better than Stage 3 because of the larger header pipes but if I add an air kit which way should my jetting go?? if you put a 167.5 jet wouldnt that lean it out too much??

I swapped back and forth with the stock Stage three and the classic Cobras till my Neighbour Bob suggested we call in the whitecoats.
Looking at the stock header pipes they sure are a lot of joints and much more
restrictive I loved the sound with stage three but it seemed like I was dragging around an anchor The Cobras are staying on .I believe they have 1 3/4 header pipes
and the removable baffles are nice Sound is good more bark ..little louder but not too loud if not on throttle However im a little concerned about being too lean
and thats when I checked my service manual on CD and found out the main jet stock is 182.5 and maybe i will be fine without rejetting???

Post edited by: Pop Rivet, at: 2006/04/21 07:49

Pop,
I won't pretend to be an expert here (cause I'm not) but I believe it is due to the taper on the needle. My stock jet is very large, but so is the taper on the needle. The Baron's kit has a much thinner needle than stock and the main is smaller. The numbers are relative to the manufacturer and the kit.

I first bought a Dynajet kit and it has different numbers from either the Baron's or the stock.

I do know you cannot mix and match parts from jet kits. Use all stock or all aftermarket and don't mix them up.

By the way -- of all of them, I like the Baron's kit best.

I have my 04, 1700 at: Baron's kit, main 172.5, needle #5 and PMS out 3.25 turns. I have speedstar 2-1-2 pipe, speedstar air kit and AIS removed. The bike runs great and gets upper 40's in the MPG department. This depends on how much I want to hear my pipe.

Post edited by: tamaule, at: 2006/04/28 07:33
