I'd guess that the R* springs are much cheaper to produce, so it's worth it to Yamaha to have two separate parts to keep track of. The plates steel and friction plus the gasket ran me $143.00 from Yamaha. Add in the cost of oil and filter your looking at aroun $300. The spring conversion kit was purchased from Billski Mods Inc. www.billski182.com I probably did not need to change steel plates but decided to do it since I put all new plates on bike.
