Brake rotor cover? 1 Year, 1 Month ago
Just pondering over trying something I havent seen done yet! My roady has the stock mag wheels. The bikes equiped with the spoke wheels have a cover over the hub on the brake calipers. Has anyone tried to mount these covers on the mag wheels? Do they fit? Will the brake rotors from the spoke wheels mount to the mags wheels? Or, Does any aftermarket companies make a hub cover to cover the large black hub in the middle of the rotor?

The rotors on the 1600's are fixed while the 1700's are floating. You don't want to just switch out the rotors and the 1700 braking system is superior to the 1600.

Look around for some V-Star pie plates, they cover that hole up nicely.

on the 1600, one of the plates has a bloody great counterweight inside to damp out the harmonic vibration and cut out brake squeel (canīt remember if itīs left or right, sorry!).

if the plate comes WITHIN the circle of the inner edge of the floating disc mounting bobbins without touching them, theoretically you should be able to use them, but they must not touch the bobbins.

(thats another one for the glossary - bobbins - the name for the circular bits that hold the disc to the carrier. dunno if itīs the same name in the states though )

Thanks Erizo, I pulled up the micro fich on the 1600 roadstar and I see that more than likely it will cause a problem with the floating disk. I then compared the pie plate for the 1100 v-star, and it covers only the center portion using the bolts for the disk, if the bolt holes in my hub on the cast wheels are the same. I am also noticing that the pie plates look like they set in flush with the disk for the 1100, if I use them on my disk on the Roadstar it may bolt onto the outside of the disk, this will make close tolerances with the forks but I believe I have enough room. MRcycles.com has these OEM pie plates for around $40 a piece. I'm thinking of taking a gamble and trying them out.
