Strange Noise 10 Months, 2 Weeks ago
Purchased a '99 Roadstar a month ago ...it is not stock. I have a what can be best described as a knocking noise once the engine warms up and under load. As per the list of noises for this engine...if it hasn't blown up by now , it must be normal. I haven't babied the bike.....but the noise bothers me. Have checked around with a stethescope while it is idling...can't find the sound. If it was a Chevy V-8, I'd say a rod was about to let loose. The previous owner has been no help at all with this. Any ideas out there ???

The roadie motor is a noisey motor as is. Its a air cooled pushrod motor with loose tolerances. I cant post a link off my phone but there is a video on youtube type in roadstar noises and there snould be a video that pops Up and the guy does a nice mob of identifying all the noises these bikes make.

Also running a 20w-50 oil will tone the noise down alot.

3 3/8" stroke. The piston tries to rock a bit at the bottom of the stroke. It's a relatively long dwell down there with that much offset. They tend to make thier own music. As many have said, HD Evo motors did it too, but the best evidence that nothing is wrong is we will tell you, all together now, "they all do that"
