Passing Lights install 2 Years, 8 Months ago
I just bought a set of passing lights for my '05 R*. For the life of me I can't figure out how the lamps mount to the new light bar. Is there some hardware I'm missing, or am I just that blind? Anyone who has installed them on their own bike.......please help!

Thanks!

When you bought the lamps did you get the mounting bar? If I'm not mistaken the new bar completly replaces the old one. Passing Lamp Mounts

When you install passing lights you have to replace the turning signal mount bar with one that comes designed to install passing lights. They usually come with hardware to install the passing lights and relocate your turn signal lights underneath the passing lights. I installed a set in my 05 R and the bar I purchased it from Yamaha. The new bar comes with the instructions on how to relocate the turn signals. Also it has welded in a plate for the lower support of the headlight housing.

Good Luck.

I have the new mounting light bar. Thats not the issue. None of the hardware looks like it will work. There are no wiring instructions so I have no idea what to wire them to. I guess Yamaha will get more of my money to install them...

Do you have one long red wire, several red, black, and I think green wire harness. The turn signals attach from the bottom of the light bar that will go into the passing lights. You must take both passing lights apart to see this. You will have several odd looking pices of hardware that look like they are the wrong parts, but they do work. E-mail me if you like and I will try my best to save you some bucks on install. Paul

Since I've got the instruction sheet for teh Yamaha passing lamp kit in the bike manual at the house. I could fax it to you, scanner broke and I'm not buying a new one. Send me an e-mail mansbestfriends@hotmail.com with a fax number.

My problem is the turnsignals don't seem to fit the included adapters. Anyone have this problem, do I go with different signals or get different adapters or just force them on?

I'm an idiot needed to remove the rubber spacers inside the clamp on the turn signal to attach them to the signal adapter of the light kit. I do recommend heat shrinking the exposed wires on your turn signals, to protect them from sharp edges, I had to tear the signal apart after I fried 4 headlamp fuses, trying to find the short. Plus it finishes up with a cleaner look.
