Clutch axel rod teeth broken. 10 Months, 1 Week ago
Bought a 2000 SILVERADO with a bad clutch. Got the cover off and now I know why the spline on top of the rod was stripped. The other end of the rod has gear teeth that are broken off. Those teeth mesh with the clutch rod gear teeth and the rod runs into the center of the clutch basket.Anyway several gear teeth are broken off. Anyone ever come across this before? Wonder what could have caused those teeth to break off like that? Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks, Pete

Guessing someone has gone through this. Just a matter of time before they speak up. In the meantime there's an engine teardown series in the tech articles that might help. BTW

OK , Further inspection finds the previous owner didn't bother to read the book or check in with a forum like the clinic, when he reassembled his clutch plates. He didn't have them alined properly. Now it looks like I need new plates and I might as well install the Barnett spring set up if its a worthwhile improvement. No wonder the seller gave up on this Silverado, the clutch must have felt like it was full of gravel. It couldn't worked long like this. Thanks Duc

The Barnett spring conversion is the way to go. Everyone here says the Yamaha clutch discs are real good. Good luck getting it put back together.
